Owners - Kevin & Felicia
The name of the cafe is inspired by my (Felicia) mother, Marie, who passed away in 2014. She was an amazing woman who, in her late 50s, was diagnosed with kidney cancer after a routine surgery. Regardless of the phase of treatment, she always smiled. It was her natural reaction to attempt to make those around her feel better. Her kind spirit was something everyone mentioned about her. From nurses and doctors, to the receptionists and other patients she interacted with, she had a profound affect on those around her.
We met while in the military. Our service provided many travel opportunities and exposure to various cultures, causes and peoples. The fervor for travel has led us to continue doing so extensively as a couple.
In March 2015, I (Kevin) read a book called It Starts With Food by Dallas & Melissa Hartwig, and recommended it to Felicia. The book exposed us to the idea of how each person’s body reacts differently to the various foods we eat, as well as the trouble with refined carbohydrates. After following the eating plan, we were able to isolate which foods caused each of our individual intolerances. The combination of awareness and the conscious decision to remove specific foods from our regular menu led to better health and weight loss. This is not to say we never indulge in foods containing refined carbohydrates, but the amount is substantially less.
I have spent a significant part of my adult life leading and life coaching. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, an MBA in Human Resource Management, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Management with a concentration in Leadership and Organizational Change. My passion for helping others realize the best version of themselves intensified as I climbed the military ranks. It is what drives me.
I have always enjoyed helping other people. However, I never realized it was my passion, until becoming my mother’s caregiver. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Public Service Leadership with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. It is my desire to bring awareness to the many organizations working to benefit various causes.
Our purpose for Marie’s Cafe is to encourage and empower individuals to seek the best version of themselves through wholesome food, self-enrichment, and altruistic insight. The cafe is as a place for diners to enjoy healthy options for breakfast and lunch. The use of refined carbohydrates is kept to a minimum and replaced with an infusion of foods containing healthier meats, fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts. The cafe is also used as a platform for promoting individual health and wellness while focusing on charitable awareness. Additionally, Marie’s is used to host various cause groups, educational and motivational seminars and cooking demonstrations.
